As a part of my 30 by 30 list, I’ve decided to learn how to fly! More on the how and why in my Learning to Fly posts.
I’ve gotten a little behind on my flight lesson videos since Patrick is out of town. He’s been the main video editor around here so I had to teach myself to use Final Cut Pro X! (So basically, cut me a little slack on this video. I’m still getting the hang of it.)
This lesson was about a week and a half ago, and I can already see progress since then. Mostly we covered climbing at different airspeeds and some turning techniques.
And from the beginning of the video you can see that talking on the radio is not one of my best skills yet either. I feel like I’m learning Greek.

You know, I almost feel like I’m getting the hang of this. That is, when I’m not trying to run us off the runway during takeoff. I saved that delightful little clip for the blooper reel. Oh yes, there will be an outtakes version of these videos.
I should have one more video ready in a day or so, and then, fingers crossed, be caught up on my editing.
Also, I just want to say a big thank you for all your kind and encouraging comments and emails. Really.

That made me laugh. Are you a nervous flyer?
I’m relieved when the wheels come off the ground! I have the hardest time taxiing it on the ground.
You are rockin’ it, Miss Aviator! So proud of you!
Thanks Jen! Can’t wait to see you in a few weeks!
You are doing SO well! But lady, I am *so* looking forward to the blooper reel too!
Ohh you should be! It will be epic.
Look at you! So professional!!
You are seriously so cool! I’m always so impressed!!
Thanks Jennifer! Please keep in mind that I edit 45+ minutes down to about 3 or 4 minutes. There are some not so smart moments that I edit out. ha!
Hi Emily, I’ve read your blog before, but it’s been awhile and I was so excited to stumble back upon your site today and see that you’re learning to fly!! I got my private at 17 and it was one of the most challenging but amazingly fun things I have ever done …particularly learning to land
I hope you’re loving it!
That’s so fun, Allie! Patrick got his license at 17 as well. I’m wishing I hadn’t waited so long! It is really fun, but landings ARE especially challenging. We did lots of those in my next lesson so the next video should feature those!
Do you have a blog?
I don’t…I need to jump on the wagon!
